Now the Taunton Deane Motorway Services, or the M5 in general wouldn't be the first location on everyone's list when they think about going out to photograph a train!
BUT it can happen, many railway companies use lorries to move their locos and coaching stock around the UK for repair and storage every year.
Over the years I've been very lucky to have photographed just a few of the mad locomotive movements on the M5 through Taunton and surrounding area. This gallery is dedicated to just that!

17-10-08 Camping Coach 9880 is seen at Grahams Cafe - North Petherton on route to the West Somerset Railway. Quite how it ended up here after travelling up from the South Devon Railway we will neve know. A slight overshoot from Jn25, or the draw of a good cooked breakfast perhaps?!

 It's not very often you come across Traction Engines out operating on the UK roads, but heres one at Beam Bridge on the A38 heading down the grade from Whiteball!

 The 10th February 2008 saw the delivery of the new Minehead Turntable to the West Somerset Railway from the Midlands. Having travelled South by low loader the Lorry recessed at Hankridge Retail Park before working through the streets of Taunton and onwards to Minehead

07-01-04 Shunter 09016 is seen in one of the most odd ball locations yet! Taunton Market Car Park of all places. The shunter was on route to Tavistock Jn where it was due to be swapped with another shunter. This shot was taken at 07:20 in the morning, just 5 minutes after I left the lorry had left and was on the M5 heading South!

 01-09-03 With a Henor Lorry from Haulage 37142 stands at Taunton Deane Services. M5 Southbound. The Locomotive had been preserved and was on route to the Bodmin and Wenford Railway. The loco/lorry spent the night at the services before continuing next day to Cornwall
